Lowering High Cholesterol Levels
Cholesterol is a substance that occurs naturally in your body. It is a byproduct of the liver. Sometimes the liver produces an excess or too much and so the body will produce a higher than normal cholesterol level.
The media has brainwashed us into thinking that cholesterol is bad and dangerous thing.
Cholesterol Types
The body transports cholesterol around in the blood which is attached to a protein. The fat and protein combination is called lipoprotein. There are two kinds of lipoproteins
Low Density Lipoprotein LDL - a majority of the cholesterol transorted around the bosy is LDL. This mainly comprises of fat and a very small trace of protein. If there is too much LDL in the bllod the arteries may become blocked with cholesterol deposits making it difficult for the blood to flow through the blood vessels. Too much LDL in the blood and the of cardiovascular disease is more likley. LDL is sometimes known as bad cholesterol.
High Density Lipoprotein HDL - Only a very small amount of HDL cholesterol flows around the body. HDL is mainly protein with a small trace amount of fat. HDL is responsible for preventing the build up of deposits in the arteries. Lower levels of HDL increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. HDL is sometimes known as good cholesterol. Women on average have higher levels of HDL than men.
